beta 1 to rc1 question

lynn-32
I just did a zypper dup on a 13.1 beta 1 and expected to see this:
zypper dup locks up Bug #802525

But nothing. Only 6 packages were updates:

zypper dup

The following packages are going to be upgraded:
  accountsservice libaccountsservice0 libblkid1 libmount1 libuuid1
util-linux

6 packages to upgrade.
Overall download size: 1.2 MiB. No additional space will be used or
freed after
the operation.
Continue? [y/n/?] (y):

And all was fine.

Is that it? How do I know if I now have rc1?

Thanks,

I wonder when - and if - you will get a response to your question.

I did a dup to my Beta 1 and still have beta 1 showing up when booting
and not rc1 so I, too, am looking forward to an answer.

Please explain what "showing up for booting" means. I did dup of B1 and
it updated 450+ packages (I have minimal text install so it is likely
almost all of what had been installed) and I certainly do not have B1
anymore.

How do you know? Where do you see that it is RC1 - in KinfoCentre or where?

Forgot to respond to the first part of your post.

When one is booting into 13.1 there is a green progress bar at the
bottom of the screen and at the end of this bar, on the right, is shown
that one is booting in 13.1 Beta 1 (Bottle). I expect this to show 13.1
RC1 and not Beta 1.

Hi
Maybe I have the wrong repos?
zypper ref
Repository 'openSUSE-13.1-1.2' is up to date.
Repository 'openSUSE-13.1-Non-Oss' is up to date.
Repository 'openSUSE-13.1-Update' is up to date.
Repository 'openSUSE-13.1-Update-Non-Oss' is up to date.
All repositories have been refreshed.

The first one looks wrong.

zypper dup

Nothing to do.

So that's only 6 packages updated since the beta 1.

Those are just names.

You need to show zypper lr -d

I honestly do not know where Plymouth takes this information, but here
my /etc/os-release:

What do you see in /etc/default/grub?

When I updated (zypper dup) from 12.3 to 13.1 Beta1, this file wasn't updated. Instead there was a /etc/default/grub.rpmnew. I merged these 2 files manually (I had 2 settings in the earlier copy that I wanted to retain GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true and GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" resume=.." containing my swap partition)

HTH,
Srinidhi.

Without Plymouth, as here, there is no such bar.

However once boot completes, it's obviously not Beta 1. Look on any tty at
the Welcome to openSUSE message. Once past Beta into RC, you'll only ever see
##.# <release-name>, the GA release version, which hasn't yet happened with 13.1.

Is that correct?
There's still nothing on zypper dup. Maybe there's been nothing new
added, but I feel that with only 6 package changes since beta 1 just
can't be right.

Thanks

Did you install B1 from DVD or using network installation from

Depending on exact point in time when you did installation you may
have got near-to-RC1 state. 13.1 repository was getting updates since
B1, it was not static.

Hello,
There is also the option of doing a fresh install from a live image
see http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/13.1-RC1/iso/

-e.g openSUSE-13.1-DVD-Build0041-x86_64.iso

OK
So, there is no way of knowing if I have the rc or not, apart from
downloading and, say attempting an update?

Is there any way of knowing if e.g. an update will be posted today at a
certain time? That way I could see if it was a problem here
Thanks,
L x

Hi
OK, I removed the update repo and then chose it again from the
'Community Repositories' section, both using yast. I've now got
updates:)

Could it be that not all mirrors (I'm in Spain) get the updates repo,
erm, updated?
Thanks,
