Jim Flanagan-4
Has the hang issue with Leap 42.3 and Intel graphics cards been resolved
now in the released version?

Thanks,

The answer is: yes or no.

Tip: you have to be more specific. E.g. what bugzilla number?

Since yesterday, drm-kmp-default 4.9.33_k4.4.79_4 exist in default Leap
42.3 update repository. It fixes major problems with Intel graphics. See

I've been running the drm-kmp-default package from the test-update repo for a
while, and it certainly helped the issue, as my system was utterly unusable
before.

But I still have graphical artifacts, garbled fonts in plasmoids sometimes and
fairly frequent short temporary Xorg lock-ups and even had a couple of hard
Xorg lock-ups. And this despite I disabled compositing in Plasma altogether to
try and minimize gfx issues. Before I tried running with compositing on, but
all effects off, but this was still worse than with compositing completely
off.

This is on a Thinkpad T410 with 4 gigs of ram.

Is the bad behavior any different with xf86-video-intel uninstalled?

Thanks. This is what I was asking about, and Martin's post on this. I'm
going to do a new install of Leap 42.3 in an old partition and see how
it goes. Will do updates soon afterwards. Hope I don't get into the Grub
hole others did.

...and you can also try update Mesa.

For me Intel graphics 4th generation seems worked best in openSUSE 13.2
out-of-box;
later it seemed to regress a bit. with openSUSE 42.2 I had some problems
in combination with some proprietary software, but helped a bit
switching MESA and other packages to latest versions from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/

With openSUSE 42.3, perhaps you can also try to add
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_Leap_42.3/
repository and switch all packages (including Mesa) to this repository.
If newer Mesa works better, maybe we can ask for maintenance update?

Removing xf86-video-intel does indeed seem to eliminate the problems. Thanks a
lot! I was starting to get a bit desperate.

Upgrading to unsupported xorg packages from OBS is a bit too adventurous for
me.

This is good news -- I'm running a Skylake processor which has been
plagued by freezes.  I've installed the new kernel and will report back
on whether it fixes the problem.

Tristan

I've been running the new kernel for ten days and so far no freezes.
Could be I've just been lucky -- I sometimes got several lockups
a day, but usually only once a week.  But I suspect the problem has
been solved.

Tristan

Well, with ironlake it makes sddm unusable and has crashes with a major
frequency. So I had to embargo that package (even the newest version).
